Centre for Innovation in Carbon Capture and Storage

An interdisciplinary, innovative, and international leading centre for research at the interface between science and engineering.

Our mission is to develop a holistic view to the development of carbon capture, transport, storage and utilisation (CCUS), making a significant impact in finding solutions in climate change and protecting the planet.  Our international networks help us to accelerate the technological innovation needed for the wider deployment of carbon capture and storage.

Located at Heriot-Watt University since 2012, the Centre for Innovation in Carbon Capture and Storage (CICCS) is an interdisciplinary, innovative and international leading centre for research and development at the interface between science and engineering.

Launched back in 2008, the Centre has grown to encompass 30 members of staff and students, led by Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer (FRSE, FIChemE, FRSC), who is a world-leader on CCUS, having over 400 publications and edited three books on the subject.
